A project that aims to disseminate Brazilian culture internationally
This is a project that aims to disseminate Brazilian culture internationally due to the lack of material on Brazilian Folklore in a foreign language. In addition to offering a bit of our culture to other countries, we also want to disseminate national legends that are not known by the Brazilian people themselves.
The project takes place from the translation of legends in Brazilian Portuguese into American English based on the book Lendas Brasileiras by Câmara Cascudo, and also includes translators' notes explaining regionalisms, local dialects and historical events that elucidate the legend making the understanding of the Brazilian culture is even more significant.
... the flavor of a fruit from the forest, the wild smell of the most lush flower, the colorful fantasy with the inks of our jungle, the charm of a tropical primitivism ...
In all countries of the world there are legends, apologues, customs, superstitions, all connected to tradition, being part of the soul and essence of a people, the principle of their inspirations, the foundation of their literature. In Brazilian folk tales, for example, they have the flavor of a fruit from the forest, the wild smell of the most lush flower, the colorful fantasy with the inks of our jungle, the charm of a tropical primitivism. Then, with the folklore activities' expansion, horizons are discovered whose colors literature so badly needs, since the letters will golden up a civilization that should be proud of a hardened and hardworking people. João Ribeiro said: “Folklore is, therefore, a research into the psychology of peoples, of their ideas and common feelings of their unconscious, made and remade secularly, and which constitutes the living source from the best geniuses and individualities comes from” Thus, literature will find in the folklore the crystalline vein from which gushes the water that stops the thirst for genius, in the desire to produce immortal works of art that give glory not only to an individual, but an entire people.
